Accountant
The Town of Boone Finance Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Accountant I. Performs difficult professional work preparing and maintaining financial accounts and records according to standardized accounting practices, performs difficult professional work supervising utility billing and collection activities; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over utility billing personnel.
Director of Finance
The Town of Boone is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Finance. This position performs difficult professional and administrative work in planning, organizing and directing the financial activities of the Town; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over all department personnel. This position reports directly to the Town Manager.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of general laws and administrative policies governing municipal financial practices and procedures; comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and budgeting in government; ability to evaluate complex financial systems and efficiently formulate and install accounting methods, procedures, forms and records; ability to prepare informative financial reports; ability to plan, organize, direct and evaluate work of subordinate employees in the specialized field of accounting; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, governmental officials and the general public; ability to formulate long‑range fiscal planning.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from and accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or related field and extensive experience in public finance administration.
Special Requirements:
Certified Public Accountant or Certified Local Government Finance Officer preferred.
Equipment Operator
The Town of Boone Public Works Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Equipment Operator in the Street Division. This employee performs intermediate skilled work operating a variety of motorized equipment in the installation, maintenance and repair of streets, water and sewer lines, service lines, and other public facilities; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Limited supervision may be exercised over assigned crew members. The job will also require overtime/call back work for snow removal and/or water and sewer repairs.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in performance of heavy manual work and in the operation of heavy motorized equipment.
Administrative Sergeant
The Town of Boone Police Department has a vacancy for the position of Administrative Sergeant.
Minimum Qualifications for Administrative Sergeant are:
- This process will be given as needed. After a promotional process, the completed promotional list remains
valid for one year. The Chief of Police or his/her designee will choose the most qualified candidate for promotion from the current list. If the list of eligible candidates is less than three, a new promotional process may be given when an opening occurs.

Candidates must have five years of credible police experience as a full-time law enforcement officer. The Chief of Police or his/her designee will have the final authority to determine what prior service will be deemed credible and how much credit will be given on a case by case basis if there is any doubt.

Candidates may have had no suspensions more than one day, and/or no more than one written reprimand, or no combination of suspensions and written reprimands in the two years of employment prior to the position posting at Boone Police Department or at another agency where the credible police service occurred.
