he Town of Boone Planning and Inspections Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Environmental Specialist.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban design, landscape architecture, horticulture or related field, or environmental science and considerable experience in the practice of landscape design, landscape contracting, urban design, environmental or landscape planning in a municipal environment.

General Definition and Conditions of Work:
This position serves as the primary Planning and Inspections team member responsible for the coordination, review, interpretation, implementation, inspection, and enforcement of all environmental matters (landscape, grading, soil erosion and sedimentation control, stormwater, flood, and watershed protection) associated with development and the built environment within the town; related work as required. 

The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be team-oriented, be able to provide clear, timely, and thorough responses to inquiries, and have familiarity with environmental regulations related to zoning and construction. This person will effectively manage tasks, adhere to deadlines, foster productive working relationships, solve problems proactively, and provide exceptional customer service. This position reports to the Director, though all permitting and code-enforcement related issues will be reported directly to the Deputy Director as outlined in the Departments organizational chart. 

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires standing, walking, pulling, fingering and repetitive motion; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken work levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surrounds and activities; the worker may be subject to adverse environmental conditions.

Police Officer

Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. 
Possession of Basic Law Enforcement certificate strongly preferred. 
Must meet and maintain all minimum training and experience requirements for position established by the department and the State of North Carolina. 
Copy of DD2-14 is required.
