Turchin Center is in need of a Visitor Services Coordinator
Position Details: The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts presents exhibition, education, and collection programs that support Appalachian State University’s role as a key regional educational, cultural, economic and service resource. We seek a museum Visitor Services Coordinator, responsible for ensuring a high-quality visitor experience.
Hiring Range: $15-$18
Requested Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in a customer service setting, preferably in a museum or gallery setting
- Strong communication and organizational skills are required to train, schedule, and supervise student staff.
- 1-2 years of student management experience, particularly in regard to scheduling
- Art museum experience
- Event management
Duties include:
- Takes the lead on interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising student Gallery Ambassadors under the guidance of the Senior Curator and Curatorial Assistant.
- Available to cover the front desk and proactive in scheduling staff to ensure consistency in Turchin
- Center’s open hours.
- Process payroll, hiring paperwork, and manages time entries for student hires.
- Maintains visitor records, attendance data, and event participation reports.
- Serves as the main point of contact for guests, ensuring a welcoming visitor experience.
- Greets and assists visitors, providing information about exhibitions and programs.
- Manages phone and email inquiries, directing messages as needed.
- Helps the Marketing/Public Relations Director execute public events (e.g., receptions, ARTtalks, First Friday, downtown events) by ensuring staffing is available, the facilities are in good condition, and visitors or vendors are given access and support as needed.
- Ensures adherence to security protocols for artwork and gallery spaces.
- Coordinates space usage requests with staff, campus, and community partners.
- Assists in donor/member engagement and maintains marketing materials.
- Operates cash registers and handles deposits per university policies.
- Monitors on-duty Gallery Ambassadors to ensure visitor engagement and artwork protection.
- Covers Gallery Ambassador shifts when needed and manages holiday/special event staffing.
- Maintains the facility’s calendar and coordinates events with other staff.
- Participates in staff meetings, planning sessions, and retreats.
- Assists with additional projects and supports exhibitions/public programming as needed.
