Part-Time Recreation Attendant Job Description To assist customers at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Accepting monies and answering phone calls, assisting in setting up for events and programs. Performing opening and closing procedures. Maintaining the facility during operating hours. Perform janitorial duties when needed Employee will work 20-30 hrs a week. Weekends are a must and occasional weeknights or holidays

Illustrative Examples of Work
  • Greets visitors; responds to questions about scheduling and renting rooms or areas; explains purpose and functions of Recreation Center and other facilities and gives tours
  • Sells memberships and/or takes reservations for the use of the Recreation Center; enters memberships or rental contracts into computer; accepts rental fees by cash, check, or credit cards; writes receipts, accounts for all monies collected
  • Monitors activities of groups using Recreation Center by observation to protect the capital investment of the Town; informs patrons of rules and regulations as needed
  • Contacts police, fire, or EMS in case of emergencies or public disturbances, and prevents unauthorized use or removal of Town property
  • Sets up and breaks down meeting rooms with chairs and tables, and other equipment as necessary
  • Empties trash and recycling containers and removes litter from floor as scheduled
  • May assist maintenance staff in the repair of building and grounds facilities and may also be required to work varied shifts including weekends of holidays
  • Assists professional programming staff in executing a variety of recreational programs in supervising activities, events and programs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the varies services of the Recreation Center and facilities including its history and purpose
  • Knowledge of the local area sufficient to give directions to restaurants, lodging, waterfalls, hiking trails, fishing areas, golf and tennis facilities, nearby towns, and other attractions
  • Knowledge of basic first aid, safety rules, and requirements
  • Knowledge of effective communication techniques sufficient to build trust with the public
  • Knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment used in custodial work
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to exhibit a positive work environment with a pleasant demeanor and avoid conflict with other employees, visitors, and residents; ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to apply first aid when required
  • Ability to rent rooms and other areas of the center and accept cash, checks, or credit cards and make change and balance receipts; ability to prepare records and reports of activities Recreation Center Assistant
  • Ability to set up and take down meeting rooms with tables and chairs and audio-visual
    equipment and perform routine maintenance and housekeeping tasks
  • Ability to recognize and report unsafe facility conditions or malfunctioning equipment
  • Ability to perform related work as required

 

Physical Requirements
Work in this position is characterized as light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force
occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible force constantly to move objects. Employees must have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned as well as recognize and apply safety standards to work performed. Employee must have sufficient strength and stamina to engage in some physical work when assisting building and grounds maintenance personnel.
