2025 Watauga County Meet the Candidates Event & Livestream

The annual Watauga County Meet the Candidates Forum took place on Tuesday, September 23, from 6:00 to 8:00PM and was broadcast live from the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Boone. The event is hosted by the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. This event was free and open to the public. In order to maintain decorum, political literature and signage was not be allowed in the room.

For those unable to attend in person, this event was broadcast live, in its entirety, on YouTube, WATA (1450 AM / 96.5 FM), and the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce website. Thank you to Rygid AV and other media partners for making this happen.

Event Format

Questions and focus areas will allow candidates to inform the local business community about their platform, goals, and objectives.

Questions were asked of all the candidates within key focus areas in a ‘round robin’ format; each having an opportunity to answer first, but all answering the same question. A set list of topics will came from suggestions from the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee.

All questions were asked by moderators David Jackson, Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, and Omer Tomlinson, Spectrum News.  Each response had a three-minute time limit, with each candidate having a 3-minute opening and closing statement. 

This forum is an opportunity for the citizenry to hear each candidate’s position on topics related to economic and community development.
