OASIS, Inc., a non-profit agency serving victims of domestic and sexual violence in Watauga and Avery Counties, is hiring a full-time Shelter Coordinator.

Position Summary:

The Shelter Coordinator position is a member of the OASIS Client Services Staff. The Shelter Coordinator takes the lead on shelter client’s case management, facility maintenance, shelter scheduling of staff and subs, and other duties as needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and clients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating shelter maintenance tasks and repairs,

  • Provide Case Management services to shelter residents, which includes but is not limited to, providing referrals to other community agencies, coordinating transportation, assistance with retrieving identification documents, financial assistance, employment, and life skills education, etc.,

  • Assist in the coordination of Domestic Violence Support Group,

  • Working overnight shifts in our emergency shelter located in Watauga County,

  • Provide crisis intervention and support for clients that may include responding to crisis calls, meeting with clients at the office and/or other community agencies and providing medical and/or judicial systems advocacy.

  • and serving as a community liaison for OASIS.

Qualifications: Relevant four-year degree and previous experience in human services field preferred. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and basic computer skills required. Must have reliable transportation and driver’s license. Those with Spanish language skills are especially encouraged to apply.

  • Salary $36,000 plus benefits.

OASIS Employment Expectations

Interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and coordination skills to effectively help people in crisis, create a supportive environment, and advocate with community partners.

Participate in monthly staff meetings, clinical supervision, and staff development activities.

Non-judgmental approach toward people that conveys respect for the individual’s inherent value, and an understanding of how the impact of poverty and trauma affects people in different ways.

Administrative and computer skills (e.g., database entry, MS Office Suite experience – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and/or Prezi) to complete case notes, reports/statistics, record-keeping, and communication requirements.

Ability to work with constant interruptions (visitors, phone calls, changing priorities depending on agency needs, etc.) Flexibility and willingness to pitch in and do whatever is needed to serve clients.

Excellent time management, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills.

Must meet the necessary Motor Vehicle Record Check requirements set forth by Philadelphia Insurance Companies, have a valid Driver's License, and up-to-date vehicle insurance to operate the OASIS vehicle when necessary.

Working Conditions

1.) Some on-call and weekend work will be required, as well as shelter nights and duties.

2.) Overnight travel may be required for conferences and training opportunities.

3.) Hazards may include physical threats from victims’ abusers. Client services staff may also be exposed to physical threats from mediating disputes between residents as well as illness from communal living situations.
