The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country is a historic Art Deco movie house located in the heart of downtown Boone. Built in 1938, the theatre operated for almost 70 years until it closed its doors in 2007. Major and minor Hollywood movies were shown, as well as traveling performers and musicians - including Bill Monroe, Lester Flatts, Earl Scruggs, and Doc Watson. The Appalachian Theatre re-opened in 2019 after an extensive $9 million renovation that combined recreated original Art Deco design elements with state of the art technologies. Today the theatre is host to a diverse array of live acts and films. To learn more about upcoming events and fascinating history of the Theatre, visit the website.
